The neonatal nursery has 50 beds of which up to 22 are ventilator intensive care (level 3). Enjoying the support of a broad range of paediatric sub-specialists the nursery is able to provide care for a diverse mix of medical and surgical problems in the newborn. Excellent opportunities to acquire experience in functional ultrasonography and echocardiography of the newborn exist and the Department has a close association with the Ritchie Centre for Baby Health Research, which has an international reputation for research into key aspects of the physiology and health of the fetus and newborn.
