All CMO's (Career Medical Officers) staff are closely assisted and supervised by ED Physicians who are Fellows of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine.
Southern Health Emergency Services comprises the three Emergency Departments of Southern Health, Monash Medical Centre Emergency Department, Dandenong Hospital Emergency Department and Casey Hospital Emergency Department, which together treat over 150,000 patients per annum.
Monash Medical Centre ED, part of the tertiary referral hospital, has separate adult and paediatric services and have over 60,000 presentations per annum. Dandenong ED is a mixed department of adults and children seeing 48,000 and is a major urban teaching hospital. Dandenong ED has been relocated to a purpose built new building with state of the art information and communication technology and separate fast track, critical care, main and observation unit functions.
Casey ED, a mixed department, is part of a new hospital opened in Berwick in 2004 and is an outer urban/semi rural hospital now seeing 47,000 presentations per annum.
Southern Health provides the full range of medical services across its sites. Patients entering the Health Service through any Emergency Department has available to them this full range of health services, although the patient may need to be transferred to another site within the service for treatment. We are the largest training program in the Southern Hemisphere employing 70 EFT of emergency medicine registrars working across our three sites.
Each Emergency Department has a Director of Emergency Medicine. Department of Genetics, Monash Medical Centre invites qualified medical practitioners registered within Australia, with suitable experience to apply for the position of Genetics Registrar – Paediatric & Adult.
This position is ideally suited to those who have passed the written and clinical examinations of the FRACP and who are interested in advanced training in Clinical genetics, endocrinology, medical oncology or gastroenterology. Those studying for their FRACP examinations would also be considered as will both adult and paediatrically trained doctors.
Training involves exposure to Familial Cancer Clinics at Southern Health and at the Peter MacCallum in East Melbourne as well as attendance at general adult and paediatric genetic clinics at Southern Health. The exact clinic mix can be determined by the interest and training goals of the successful candidate. Attendance at the RCH for clinical meetings and tutorials in genetics is offered for 1 day per week and honorary fellowship at the Victorian Clinical Genetics Service is available.

The Clinical Haematology Unit, Haematology Research group is one of the largest clinical trial unit's within Southern Health and is currently involved with approximately 20 trials. It has a particular interest in novel therapies for thrombotic disorders and blood cancers.
This position is a full-time advanced trainee position in clinical and laboratory haematology with provision of outpatient care for research trial participants and outpatient clinic attendance. You are expected to participate in quality assurance projects and will contribute to and support research projects conducted by Senior Medical Staff.
We seek to appoint a Haematology Research Fellow whose primary objective is to enable delivery of clinical trial activity in a timely manner. The Research Fellow will work under the supervision of the Clinical Haematology Unit Senior Medical Staff and is expected to participate in all the unit's activities as well as contribute to the overall professional standing of the unit. The Intensive Care Unit at Monash Medical Centre is a 26 bed Level III facility. It is accredited for C24 training with the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (JFICM), and offers a highly stimulating and enjoyable work environment. The Unit's casemix includes a wide variety of medical and surgical patients, together with Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgical and Paediatric cases. The Unit provides state-wide obstetric ICU services, and provides outreach and MET services to the hospital.
These positions meet the Advanced Training requirements of the CICM, and will provide trainees with a stimulating and well supervised clinical program and a comprehensive educational program. Senior Registrars have the opportunity to participate in the audit, quality and research activities of the Unit.
The Unit has a strong track record in facilitating Advanced Trainee placement in approved anaesthesia and general medicine training, and the Senior Medical Staff of the Unit are actively involved in teaching and exam preparation for the RACP, ANZCA and CICM, in both adult and paediatric medicine.

Monash BreastScreen (Southern Health) in Bayside Melbourne offers two consecutive 6 month fellowships in Breast Imaging, to appropriate Post-Part 2 FRANZCR Radiology Trainees or Junior Radiologists. Fellowships commence in 4 February 2013 and 5 August 2013.
This fellowship provides full exposure to mammography and breast ultrasound and all breast interventional techniques.
Monash BreastScreen is based at the Moorabbin Hospital in Bayside Melbourne, and is one of Victoria’s largest BreastScreen Services screening approximately 48,000 women annually. Three large assessment clinics are run each week. Fourteen radiologists work in a range of sessional capacities with the BreastScreen team, providing collegiate support and are also involved in training radiology registrars, radiographers and medical students. The fellowship duties will be performed at Moorabbin Hospital in East Bentleigh.

Enjoying the support of a broad range of paediatric sub-specialists in a large, state-of the-art Medical Centre Monash Newborn cares for the extremely preterm infant and a diverse mix of medical and surgical problems in the newborn infant.
This position offers the Fellow excellent opportunities to gain experience in medical and surgical neonatal care, work in a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, and participate in a vibrant teaching program. Accredited Paediatric Sleep Medicine Clinical Fellow / Advanced Training Registrar
The Melbourne Children's Sleep Centre (MCSC) at Monash Medical Centre seeks an advanced trainee or fellow for a full time paediatric sleep position for 2013.
The MCSC is the only comprehensive paediatric sleep centre in Victoria and has a clinical service, a sleep laboratory (> 900 paediatric sleep studies/year) and established program managing children requiring non invasive ventilation. The MCSC has close relationships with The Ritchie Centre for Baby Health Research which allows the opportunity to support and develop research.
This position would suit a senior advanced paediatric trainee registrar or fellow who has had training in respiratory medicine, neonatology, neurology or general paediatrics.

These positions begin on either 4 February 2013 or 5 August 2013 for 6 or 12 months.
The unit is headed by Associate Professor Geoff Littlejohn, and staff rheumatologists include
Professor Eric Morand (Deputy Director), Associate Professor Michelle Leech, Drs Daniel Lewis, Sally Ayoub, Joanne Sahhar, Emma Guymer and Gene Ngian. An additional 10 affiliated regional rheumatologists join the unit for clinical meetings and refer inpatients.
Six weekly supervised outpatient clinics take place at MMC Clayton. A lupus outpatient clinic in conjunction with nephrology and a rheumatoid arthritis clinic, fibromyalgia, scleroderma and psoriatic arthritis all operate weekly. There is a strong clinical emphasis on complex inflammatory rheumatic diseases including lupus and vasculitis. Presentation at weekly unit meetings is a highlight, with fortnightly imaging and quarterly pathology reviews included. All services are at MMC, but occasional consulting to
Dandenong and Kingston is included. Research is a particular strength at Monash, with multiple clinical research projects including clinical trials headed by A/Professor Littlejohn, and a large basic research group headed by Professor Eric Morand. Opportunities of registrars to participate in research are plentiful, encouraged, and strongly supported. Numerous advanced trainees have completed higher degrees in basic or clinical research at MMC.

We are offering a one year research and clinical fellowship in the field of Cerebrovascular Medicine at Monash Medical Centre and collaborating institutions. The strength of the unit is in MR and CT perfusion imaging and epidemiological research in the field of stroke and vascular dementia.

A rewarding opportunity exists for a qualified and motivated Career Medical Officer to join the multidisciplinary team in caring for patients in the Transition Care Program, based at Kingston Centre.
The Transition Care Program cares for up to 20 patients who are relatively medically stable. The patients’ length of stay generally varies between 4-12 weeks.
The purpose of the admission is to finalise discharge plans, help patients achieve their treatment goals and for case management.
The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated team including a visiting Consultant Geriatrician, Case Managers, allied health and nursing staff. After hours and weekend cover is provided within the Kingston Centre medical staff roster.
The Career Medical Officer will be required for direct patient management, attendance at patient case conferences and family meetings. The career medical officer will be supported by the Consultant Geriatrician and the Fellow in Geriatric Medicine. He/she will be able to access continuing education available on site and will be part of a friendly and supportive team.
Hours will be 6 hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Victorian Paediatric Training Program SRMO (PGY3/4)

The Royal Children's Hospital, in conjunction with the Monash Children's has a 12 month SRMO training program that will expose its participants to critical areas of neonatal and paediatric medicine. The appointment (position) involves:
- 6 months rotation in a tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care unit (RWH/MCC/Mercy)
- 6 months of other rotations (comprising a mix of specialty medical units and general paediatrics) (MCC/RCH/regional centres)
Applications are invited from Medical Practitioners with at least 12 months paediatric experience who wish to undertake Paediatric Physician Training.
Successful applicants must demonstrate their potential for progressing through the Paediatric training program and for developing as a Consultant Paediatrician. They must also demonstrate an ability to practice competently at a high clinical standard.
Trainees who wish to job share or work six months only should apply jointly as a pair.
At the successful completion of this 12 month program, trainees are eligible for a further 12 months as a first year Registrar usually with general paediatric and emergency rotations in a tertiary paediatric centre and a secondment within Melbourne.
